Our Beneficiary Saturday 10pm 12.04.2010 ![]() The Power of Love Foundation Visits Columbus!Visiting us from San Diego, CA, on November 21, Alka Subramanian , cofounder of The Power of Love Foundation, shared with us information about the pediatric AIDS program in Lusaka, Zambia. In a country where medical resources and health care are limited, leveraging Africa’s strong family and community importance has been cost effective and successful. Alka has a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. She was a tenured professor of marketing at the University of South Dakota for seven years. After traveling to Africa in 2003, Alka came back convinced of the need to support care givers and volunteers through training in business skills and caregiving to sick children. After 15 years in academics and international research, Alka quit academia to co-found the Power of Love Foundation. Partners in these efforts have included teams from MIT and the Harvard School of Public Health.
Alka continues to be a strong force at the Foundation, empowering women and care providers and using the power of love and caring to increase the effectiveness of HIV prevention and care efforts. Alka manages partnerships with grass roots organizations supported by the Foundation as well as coordinating all financial, legal, and reporting work. She is married to Suresh, also a cofounder, and has three wonderful children who are also very supportive of the work. |
